Project Overview
This project is intended for second year English language learners (ELL) in a Literacy, English, and Academic Development (LEAD) classroom. Throughout this project, students will be creating and revising a short personal narrative story and documenting these stories digitally. This project focuses on students’ oral language development with respect to vocabulary, fluency, knowledge of word order, and organization of ideas. Students will also be learning about the parts of a story and understanding how to logically sequence a story. The main purpose of this unit is to encourage students to use language effectively to express themselves and inform others. Although this project was created for LEAD students, it can easily be adapted for learners within a variety of contexts.
The project is divided into 10 lessons that include, exploring what a personal narrative is, brainstorming ideas for a personal narrative, constructing a narrative, and recording and revising a personal narrative. Each lesson outlines the objectives, rational, learning sequence, and student instructions. The assessments used for this project are embedded into the lessons and can also be found in a separate section entitled Assessments.
